Have you ever done something out of obedience to God and was ridiculed for it? Sometimes the ridicule comes from the very people you were trying to help. I know many pastors and other community servants know what I’m talking about. Have you said in secret that they are so unworthy of this gift of service God has called you to give to them? But God presses you to continue because that is the essence of who He is—He is Love.

Love is as Love does. Love cannot be explained. Its actions and sacrifices are a continual mystery to us. It reaches out and delivers gifts to the unworthy. That is what happened that first Christmas. Love arrived delivering hope to an unworthy world. The truth of our unworthiness is what makes this love so powerful.
While we were yet sinners Christ came!
We have developed many mechanisms in our search to relieve our pain—mechanisms such as drugs, overeating, destructive habits and even revenge. These are simply ‘Band Aids’ that will never get to the root of our pain and bring the peace that we long for. Even time does not heal all wounds.

Christ died so that we could obtain relief! Final and complete relief of our pain and mental bondages. Dig up the roots of your pain and expose it to Him. He can sculpt the ugliest gnarled roots into a work of art that edifies you and those that are suffering around you. Let Him take your roots and make them into a symbol of Hope.

One of my favorite quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr. is, “Fear knocked on the door. Faith answered. There was no one there.” There is no one there, beloved. The Bible records, “…Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8b). The devil will growl and make all kinds of threats, but “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37)

The Scriptures teach is that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us (see Philippians 4:13). That word strengthens is a powerful word – it means to enable a person to act vigorously or effectively. In Christ you can answer all of your doors when fear knocks on them. Through that door is your destiny and Christ will walk with you through it – go get it!
Are you living with a painful episode(s) locked in your heart? You know what it is – that time in your life you cannot bear to think about and will never talk about. That thing that you’ve decided is better off buried although it grawns at the deep recesses of your soul and sometimes cries out in your dreams for a voice. Sessions in Pain is an exploration into one of the most tragic lives of human history. It was written to help you begin the work of facing and cleaning out the closets of your own soul to bring you to a place of strength, victory and resolution in God. Our Lord knows all that you suffered and knows all that you carry and He waits to bring you to victory just as He did Job. Don’t carry this burden another day.
